    Prebiotic Fibers and Polyols

    The Tereos Actilight range introduces high-quality prebiotic fibers from sugar beet, primarily composed of fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). These fibers are designed to boost digestive health and promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, offering a natural, low-calorie sweetening option that also improves texture and stability. Meanwhile, Tereos' polyols, including sorbitol and mannitol, provide reduced-calorie sugar alternatives crucial for producing sugar-free and reduced-calorie products, such as chewing gums and diabetic-friendly foods.

    Dextrose

    Dextrose is a white crystalline powder with a sweet taste, highly soluble in water. Food manufacturers can formulate with dextrose to balance nutritional and sweetness profile, increase shelf life and optimise the cost of ingredients compared to sucrose and lactose. It is also an ideal carbohydrate source for yeast fermentation in both baking and brewing.

    Glucose

    Tereos glucose facilities transform starch milk into glucose syrups, which are then purified and concentrated. Specific mixtures are created allowing their diverse range to be best tailored to your needs.

    Tereos offers a wide range of maltodextrin possibilities including botanical origin maltodextrins
    Tereos' range of Maldex® Maltodextrin is made from renewable materials. With a moderate sweet taste, these maltodextrins can be used as a bulk carrier, a nutritive component or to improve mouthfeel in a variety of foods including specialised nutritional products.

    Maltodextrins are widely used to balance the nutritional profile of foods, carry aromas, provide flavours, or to adjust the sweetness. Maltodextrins are hydrolysed starches with a DE of <20, meaning they possess low to no sweetness.

    Tereos maltodextrins offer a wide range of carbohydrate spectrum (including potato, wheat and corn), particle size distribution (regular and granulated) and densities with excellent compression, flowability and dissolving properties.

    Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol with a sweet taste which the human body metabolizes slowly.

    Most sorbitol is made from potato starch.

    Sorbitol is a sugar substitute as it is about 60% as sweet as sucrose. It is often referred to as a nutritive sweetener because it provides dietary energy. It is often used in diet foods as well as in mints, cough syrups, and sugar-free chewing gum. In baking it acts as a plasticizer, slowing down the staling process.

    Starch is the most abundant carbohydrate reserve in plants. It is largely present in cereals such as wheat, corn and potato starch. Starch is formed in plants through photosynthesis, which enables plants to absorb carbon from the atmosphere and convert it into glucose.

    Tereos is the world’s second-largest sugar producer, producing ranges of sweetening solutions, including crystallised sugar, beet sugar, cane sugar, liquid sugar, special sugars, and many more.
    Sweetening products make up the most diversified family of Tereos products consumed in a range of applications including dairy products, confectionery, chewing gum, beverages, soups, sauces and infant & child nutrition.
    The sugar that we use every day in our coffee or our cakes is sucrose, extracted from sugar beet or sugar cane.
    Whether harvested manually or mechanically, the canes are shredded and then crushed to produce juice and bagasse. The juice is sieved then heated and limed to remove its impurities before it passes into evaporators to extract a syrup combining sugar crystals and a mother liquor, from which the sugar crystals are separated in a centrifuge.
