EarthOil - Low Allergen Essential Oils

Sourcing and utilizing natural ingredients do not necessarily correlate with being gentle on the skin. According to Mintel, as skin conditions and allergies are on the rise, brands have an opportunity to leverage new claims and be part of the inclusivity movement. They can promote claims like non-irritating, attracting consumers with skin disorders, allergies, or general scent sensitivity, who want green and safe ingredients. For example, 17% of US adults who don't use fragrance/scented products cite allergies as a reason (Source: Kantar Profiles/Mintel, August 2020).
The exposure to allergens, even more in urban environments, has encouraged some brands to offer allergen-free products, formulating with no or low allergen containing raw material. However, how do we deal with ingredients naturally high in allergens, like specific essential oils? It is possible to propose oils that hold a low level. These versions could be a better choice for some formulators and customers to minimize exposure.
Fragrance Wheel for Essential Oils

After the recent issues surrounding potential allergens (furanocoumarins in oils), we have developed a range of low-allergen oils to help customers achieve legislative constraints without losing beneficial effects.
Citrus Oils
Citrus oils, among them Bergamot Oil Expressed, Grapefruit Oil Expressed, Lemon Oil Cold Pressed and Petitgrain Mandarin Oil, contain different levels of furocoumarins. Due to their phototoxic effects, IFRA has set a Standard for Citrus oils and other furocoumarins containing essential oils, that restricts the content of these oils in finished consumer product. The limit only applies to applications on skin exposed to UV-light, excluding rinse-off products and incidental skin contact products, as detailed in the Guidance for the use of IFRA Standards.
EarthOil is able to provide you several low furocoumarins essential oils :
Rose Oil LFC (Organic)
According to IFRA, typical natural presence for Methyl eugenol is found in the Natural Complex Substances (NCS) Rose Oil, whose botanical name is Rosa x damascena Mill. Because this material can lead to dermal sensitization and systemic toxicity, an IFRA Standard imposes a quantitative limit on its use in the finished consumer product within all the categories. Category 5, for example, containing all the “Products applied to the face and body using the hands (palms), primarily leave-on”, allows a maximum of 0,0020% Methyl eugenol.
EarthOil offers you a low allergen oil, that contains only 0,6% of Methyl eugenol : its precious Rose Oil Low ME COSMOS (Organic) - INCI name: Rosa damascena Flower Oil.
