White spirit is a petroleum-derived clear liquid commonly used as an organic solvent in painting as a paint thinner. White spirit is insoluble in water and therefore also used as an extraction solvent, a cleaning solvent, a degreasing solvent and as a solvent in aerosols, wood preservatives, lacquers, varnishes, and asphalt products.
